Giganotosaurus carolinii

As a research and development assignment focusing on the locomotion of the Giganotosaurus carolinii dinosaur, this project demanded the most in-depth analysis of any I have undertaken to date.

Extensive research

To recreate its movements as accurately as possible, I explored a wide range of research areas, including skeletal structure, musculature, biomechanics, gait, speed, posture, environment, and evolutionary connections to modern relatives.

I also consulted with expert paleontologists to ensure maximum fidelity in terms of anatomy and behaviour.

A fortunate collaboration

The skin, skeleton, and muscle models, as well as the rigging, muscle simulations, and rendering, were all expertly created by my friend and fellow student, Will Terry.

My research played a key role in guiding his work, providing detailed insights that informed each stage of the development process.

This project marked my first real deep dive into hyper-realistic creature animation and biomechanics, a challenge that pushed me to new levels of research and precision.

The attention to detail required was significant, but I found the process both fascinating and rewarding. In the end, I’m very proud of the result and everything I learned along the way.
